Dinah Lugard’s remarkable win at HACKfest 2024 with her innovative antivirus software, Cecilia Bug, has solidified her as a leading tech figure. Representing Africa, Dinah developed Cecilia Bug during the competition. The software is designed to unfreeze electronic devices, particularly phones, that have been targeted by phishing attacks. Phishing attacks typically freeze devices, but Cecilia Bug allows users to restore their devices to normal operation.

Her victory came after a thorough review of the competition results. Concerns raised by other participants led the HACKfest judging panel, along with a special committee, to reassess the submissions. Following this detailed reassessment, Dinah’s exceptional performance and her groundbreaking solution, Cecilia Bug, were reaffirmed, securing her the grand prize.

Speaking about her achievement, Dinah revealed that a major global tech company had offered $1million to purchase Cecilia Bug. However, she declined the offer, choosing to retain full control over her invention rather than sell it.

Organized by the Global Cybersecurity Summit, HACKfest is known as a prestigious platform for showcasing the world’s top tech talent. Dinah’s win not only underscores her individual brilliance but also enhances Nigeria’s growing reputation in the global technology space.

Her success at HACKfest 2024 is a testament to her dedication, marking a major milestone for both her career and Nigeria’s standing in the global tech industry.
