The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) closed airspace and issued a ground stop in North and South Carolina on Saturday afternoon. This was as a result of a balloon that was suspected to be a Chinese spy.
It was reported that the balloon was first sighted earlier in the week in Montana. The balloon became a cause of concern for the FAA when it was later spotted in South Carolina. This led to the FAA issuing a ground stop in three different airports in the Carolinas. The ground stop lasted over an hour.
The airports affected were Myrtle Beach International Airport, Charleston International Airport, and Wilmington International Airport.
The suspected spy balloon was later shut down by US fighter jets.
