The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi is ahead in a fresh poll conducted nationwide by Nextier, an African-focused consulting firm.
The latest face-to-face poll by Nextier is the second poll they’ve conducted for the 2023 presidential elections. The first which was conducted in rural areas across the six geopolitical zones placed Peter Obi ahead of the two other major candidates.
Peter Obi is ahead with 37% votes from the 3,000 respondents across the 36 states and federal capital territory. He is followed by the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, with 27% of the total respondents. While the candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Bola Tinubu pulled 24% of the total respondents.
Although the candidate of the New Nigerian People’s Party(NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso won in Kano State, he only pulled 6% votes of the total respondents.
The results of these fresh polls show that Obi secured at least 25% in only 23 states as against the required 24 states. If this result eventually plays out at the forthcoming elections, scheduled for 25th February, it could lead to a runoff election between Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar or Bola Tinubu.
