Twitter Removes Blue Tick From Verified Accounts

By Blessing Enechojo Abu

Twitter has removed the blue checkmarks from accounts that had been verified before Elon Musk took over at Twitter.

The once coveted blue ticks were removed from notable accounts over their refusal to pay the company’s subscription service for the blue ticks.

Before 11 am on Thursday 20th April, the blue ticks started disappearing from previously verified accounts. Others lost their verification shortly after.

Accounts of notable personalities like former US president, Donald Trump, Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, afrobeats singers Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid have all lost their verification ticks.

Twitter users that sign up on an iOS device will have to pay $11 per month – or $132 per year – to get their own blue checkmark, or alternatively, you can pay $8 per month if you sign up on the web.
